Hon. Members, I defer item 4; we take item 5.
    STATEMENTS 10:05 a.m.

    Mr. Speaker 10:15 a.m.
Hon. Members, I will allow contributions only from the Leaders of the House on the situation.
    Mr. E. K. D. Adjaho (NDC -- Avenor/ Ave) 10:15 a.m.
Mr. Speaker, the Statement speaks for itself and I support the part of it that indicated that the Government of Ghana should take up this unfortunate incident with the Togolese authorities, especially with regard to the lives of those three people who have bullets embedded in their flesh as the hon. Member for Ketu South has indicated. And also to make sure we
put measures in place that in future we do not experience this type of situation again as a result of an election.
Mr. Speaker, I support the Statement and I think that the House could make a copy available to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defence so as to see what can be done about this matter.
    Majority Leader (Mr. F. K. Owusu- Adjapong) 10:15 a.m.
Mr. Speaker, it is unfortunate that three of our own nationals have suffered this fate. It is my prayer and hope that the medical authorities would be able to assist and get a solution in curing them. I also endorse the suggestion that we make a copy of the Statement available not only to the two Ministries concerned but also to the Ministry of the Interior for them to see how best they can get solution, first concerning our nationals and then also to ensure that we get our neighbours to be more careful when they are working in their country.
    Mr. Speaker 10:15 a.m.
As I indicated, I was going to allow only the Leadership of the House, as agreed to, to make contributions.
    Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor 10:15 a.m.
Mr. Speaker, I appreciate that. I was only trying to ask for your guidance. On a very important matter like this where the Chairman and Ranking Member of your Committee on Defence and Interior are here whether they could not have extended to them this privilege, by your indulgence, since we have been dealing with this issue -- But that is not to question your ruling on this
matter; I just wanted your guidance on this for the future.
    Mr. Speaker 10:15 a.m.
Thank you for your suggestion; we will take this matter later but not at this stage.
Committee sittings -- Majority Leader, any indications on that?
    Mr. Owusu-Adjapong 10:15 a.m.
Mr. Speaker, we need to look at the GETFund with all the speed that can be marshalled and I therefore move that we adjourn till Tuesday,17th May, 2005 at 10 o'clock in the morning to enable us have a Committee of the whole to discuss the Formula for the Distribution of the GETFund. I so move.
    Mr. Adjaho 10:15 a.m.
Mr. Speaker, I am not too clear with the motion as to whether we are dissolving ourselves into a Committee of the whole which is the whole House after which we adjourn, but Mr. Speaker, I second the motion.
Question put and motion agreed to.
    ADJOURNMENT 10:15 a.m.

  • The House was accordingly adjourned at 10.20 a.m. till 17th May, 2005 at 10.00 a.m.
